Aerospace Quality Engineer

Title: Aerospace Quality Engineer
Location: Seattle, Washington

Reports to: Vice President of Business Systems
Hours: Full Time, M/F, Days


Support the implementation and maintenance of The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc.’s quality assurance program as related to, but not limited to, fabrication, assembly, delivery operations and other activities in our aerospace business unit to ensure complete quality assurance is provided



  • Participate in the reviews of all manufacturing, purchasing and test documentation to ensure that the established quality specifications are met on assigned products, programs and processes.
  • Review drawings, process procedures, test procedures, inspection and analysis and work orders making any recommendations regarding quality standards
  • Provide technical and quality support to production and quality personnel as well as suppliers and customers
  • Identify failure trends, perform root-cause analysis and coordinate corrective action
  • Make recommendations for implementations of new programs directed at improved methods, work simplification, improved tooling, plant and/or job layout and cost reduction for any quality related activity in conjunction with the Lean Six/Sigma Manager
  • Participate in Lean/Process improvement activities
  • Perform surveys, involving possible visits to a supplier’s facility to evaluate adherence to both the customer and internal quality specifications
  • Maintain current knowledge for the position of Quality Assurance Engineer and within the quality assurance area through continuing education, subscriptions, certifications and memberships
  • Conduct a continuous study of quality assurance processes and methods and recommend any improvements


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quality, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or similar field is required
  • 5 + years of quality experience in a manufacturing environment with strong sheet metal, machining and assembly background
  • Thorough knowledge of Quality tools, including SPC, GR&R, DOE, FMEA, and GD&T
  • The following are highly desired: FMEA/Control Plan Development, Root-Cause Analysis, Project Management, Process Improvement, ISO9001/AS9100, Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Six Sigma Certification is a plus
  • Strong computing skills are expected (word processing, excel, graphics, spreadsheets, etc.)
