2011 Redefining Vision Auction and Dinner

It was an incredible evening! The generous bids and contributions of 245 auction guests grossed over $100,000 for Lighthouse programs and services. Because of the support, we will be able to continue providing essential tools and training for independence for blind and Deaf-Blind individuals in our community.

Our auction’s mission is to create an accessible event experience featuring items that will be enjoyed by blind and sighted people alike. Guests enjoyed three silent auctions, followed by a dinner program and live auction emceed by the Lighthouse’s Accessibility Manager Peggy Martinez. This year’s event highlighted the Lighthouse’s Deaf-Blind Community Class, and featured a keynote speech by the Lighthouse’s Deaf-Blind Community Class and Retreat Coordinator Paul Ducharme. Direct donations through the Raise-Your-Paddle portion of the live auction generated $10,000 more than in previous years in support of Deaf-Blind Community Class. Aside from the Raise-Your-Paddle bids, a Palm Desert Vacation Package featured in the Live Auction was the highest-selling item at $2,300.

During these challenging times, community support means more than ever. Funds raised at the auction enable us to continue offering jobs and services that make a difference for blind and Deaf-Blind people in our community. It’s because of our dedicated supporters that we are able to fulfill our mission of creating and enhancing opportunities for independence and self-sufficiency of people who are blind, Deaf-Blind, and blind with other disabilities.
